Cedar Rapids Welcomes State Volleyball Tournament to Ice Arena

The Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CRACVB) is proud to welcome the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) State Volleyball Tournament for the 21st consecutive year. The annual event will be held November 9-12, 2011, at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
“The IGHSAU State Volleyball Tournament is a great boost to our local economy each fall. We look forward to welcoming it back to Cedar Rapids again this year,” said Marilee Fowler, president & CEO of the CRACVB. “With the tournament being hosted at a new location we encourage residents and businesses to help welcome and direct fans around the community.”
Each year 32 teams compete, bringing players, coaches, family members and friends to the area. Attendance during the four-day tournament averages 30,000. With an expected economic impact of $1.8 million in direct spending this year, the 21-year total economic impact since 1991, is estimated at over $31 million. Direct expenditures may include lodging, food and beverages, gasoline, souvenirs, admission fees, entertainment, or other retail goods.

We appreciate the commitment the organization has made to the city of Cedar Rapids and, in particular, their flexibility as we renovate the U.S. Cellular Center. We look forward to continuing this relationship for many years to come,” said Mary Lee Malmberg, CRACVB Director of Sports Tourism.
