November 28, 2011
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CRACVB) is pleased to announce the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) 2014 Conference Site Selection Committee unanimously voted to select the Cedar Rapids Convention Complex to host their annual Taking Care of Business Conference June 9-12, 2014.
The conference will fill the attached hotel and expand out into other area hotel properties. In addition, off-site functions will be held at Theatre Cedar Rapids and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. The conference will generate over $150,000 direct spending with 400 attendees.
“The CRACVB is pleased to welcome the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Conference in 2014,” said Marilee Fowler, CRACVB CEO. “Iowa ABI attendees will have the opportunity to learn about our business community and experience Cedar Rapids directly through our restaurants, attractions and shopping centers.”
Iowa Association of Business and Industry is Iowa’s oldest and largest business network representing 1,400 businesses employing over 300,000 Iowans.
ABI Treasurer, Myron Linn with Pella Corporation, who led the selection team, says, “We were impressed by the professionalism and vision exemplified by the CRACVB throughout the entire process. We are excited to work with Cedar Rapids leaders in creating ABI’s best conference experience.”
The three critical factors in choosing Cedar Rapids were: 1) First class conference facilities, 2) Adequate, upscale overnight accommodations, and 3) Unique community treasures like the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library and Theatre Cedar Rapids.
ABI Senior Vice President of Revenue and Programs, Leisa Fox, said, “The opportunity to be one of the first groups to commit to using the new Convention Complex was very appealing. After all that Cedar Rapids has been through, ABI wants to do what we can to showcase the renaissance that is taking place there.”
The CRACVB continues to market all area meeting space and hotel properties and will be asking the local community to “Bring Your Meeting Home”.
