- Freedom Festival fireworks to be launched from May's Island plaza area
- Freedom Festival's return to its traditional Downtown Cedar Rapids venue on July 4th will include a new location for the festival's fireworks launch. This year's Celebration of Freedom fireworks, sponsored by Rockwell Collins, will be launched from the grassy plaza area on May's Island between the Veteran's Memorial Building and the Linn County Courthouse.

- The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library has taken a major step in recovery from the 2008 floods with the recent opening of a building in Cedar Rapids' Czech Village.
- Taste of Czech and Slovak to Kick Off Houby Days weekend in Czech Village
- The Czech Village Association is hard at work planning the 33rd Annual Houby Days Festival which celebrates the morel mushroom, one of the first signs of spring. The festival is May 14 - 16 in Czech Village and features family friendly parade, food, music, folk dancing, Parade of Kroje, Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa Pageant, carnival, and unique contests.

- Cedar Rapids mayor Ron Corbett will race 600 WMT talk show host Bob Bruce and Van Meter Industrial president Barry Boyer in a 15 lap race at Hawkeye Downs on Friday, May 21, 2010, at approx 8:30 p.m.

- The Cedar Rapids Downtown District has announced the brand launch of "Bringing Downtown to Life" scheduled for the week of May 10. Three events hosted by Cedar Rapids Downtown District will correspond with the launch week, representing various sectors of downtown life.

- Iowa dental leaders, together with the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, announced the next Iowa Mission of Mercy will be held at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids November 5-6, 2010.
- Nominations Accepted for Historic Preservation Award
- The Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is accepting nominations for preservation awards to honor the efforts of citizens to preserve City's historic buildings. The winners of the preservation award will be recognized at the award ceremony to be held at Brucemore on Monday, May 24, 2010.
- Cedar Rapids Ranks in Top 5 Metro Areas with Best Basic Services
- The Gallup-Healthways Basic Access Index has ranked Cedar Rapids fourth out of 187 U.S. metro areas for providing basic necessities for a better quality of life. Cedar Rapids received an 87.3 index score, just two points from the top ranked metro area.
