A Call for Artists
Cedar Rapids own New Bohemia Group is planning an arts and music street festival September 5th and 6th (Labor Day Weekend) on 3rd Street in the Arts and Entertainment District of Cedar Rapids - 40 artists exhibiting and selling work, 2 live outdoor stages with over 14 bands, street buskers, ethnic foods, interactive art activities for all ages. This is Cedar Rapid's only juried outdoor art festival of the season.
Governor Culver Announces Vision Iowa Grant for Flood Recovery Effort
Governor Chet Culver announced $2,300,000 in Vision Iowa today, including their first award to a project recovering from last year's floods. The grants, approved today by the Vision Iowa Board at their meeting in Ft. Dodge, were awarded to the Theatre Cedar Rapids, a community theater expansion in Spencer and a new public library in Williamsburg.
Orchestra Iowa One of 64 Orchestras to Receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds
Federal grants to 64 orchestras will preserve jobs in communities nationwide, including Cedar Rapids, thanks to awards totaling $2.6 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Orchestra Iowa will use the $25,000 grant it received to help preserve its 82-member orchestra.
Corridor Welcome Reception Scheduled for August 3
The quarterly "Welcome Reception", a program designed to introduce new and existing members of the community to individuals and organizations with varying interests, will be held Monday August 3rd from 5:30-7:30PM at the Theatre Cedar Rapids/Lindale location along Collins Road in Cedar Rapids. This event is free and open to the public.
Cedar Rapids selected as site for 2012 Central States Shrine Association Ceremonial Session
The Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau announced Cedar Rapids has been selected as the site for the Central States Shrine Association's 2012 Ceremonial Session. The annual convention, hosted by the El Kahir Shrine Center of Cedar Rapids, will be held August 8-12, 2012. The four day event is expected to generate $1,014,000 in direct spending and will be attended by 3,000 visitors representing the 25 Shrine Centers from the eight states that comprise the Central Region of the Shrine of North America.
