Jan. 26 to be proclaimed Arts and Culture Day across the Corridor

The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) is pleased to announce that Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, is being proclaimed “Arts and Culture Day in the Corridor” by several Corridor cities.

Mayors in Cedar Rapids, Columbus Junction, Coralville, Iowa City, Mount Vernon, Tipton, Washington and West Branch are proclaiming “Arts and Culture Day” in conjunction with the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance Innovative Excellence Awards (aka The Ickys!), the Corridor's only cultural awards honoring excellence and innovation in the past year in the local art and culture community.

“We are thrilled that these cities have come together to declare Arts and Culture Day,” said Joe Jennison, Executive Director of ICCA. “This is indeed proof that we are living in a community that cares about culture. These cities understand that arts and culture organizations are indeed what attract and retain employees to the area and create the Corridor’s great quality of life.”

The award ceremony will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m., at the Englert Theatre, 221 E Washington St., downtown Iowa City, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Along with the award presentations (in 11 categories), the evening will also include 12 live performances representing some of the cultural community's many successes during calendar year 2008. Presenting sponsor of the event is Corridorbuzz.com, major sponsor is Alliant Energy and supporting sponsor of the event is PTDN Diversity Network.

The Ickys are a formal-but-fun, red-carpet event open to members of the public. Tickets for the program are $20 and are still available through the Englert Theatre Box Office by calling 319.688.2653.
