The New Bohemia Group presents the 2009 New Bohemia Arts & Music Festival
It’s the 3rd Annual New Bohemia Arts & Music Festival taking place over the Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 5 & Sunday, September 6 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and we’re happy to be back on 3rd Street SE after the floods of 2008. Please plan on attending this wonderful, all-ages community event. This year’s FREE festival features:
• Over 40 local artists showing paintings, illustration, printmaking, photography, pottery, jewelry, glasswork and sculpture. Included in the exhibit will be work from two artist recovery groups (artists affected by the flood) representing Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Master of Ceremonies for Best of Show Awards will be Cedar Rapids City Councilman Brian Fagan.
• Two live stages of music with 28 artists/bands playing original music, folk, classic rock, blues, jazz, and hip hop – something for every musical taste. Saturday evening concerts at the Bottleworks Stage and Cherry Building stages will feature The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Dave Schultz & Dry Heat, Uniphonics, Christerifik/Sonny Wholestak and the Hoodlums.
• A New Bo KidZone area with music, dance, theater and art making activities for kids under 12. The KidZone will also feature a New Bo City Market, Kid's Karaoke, interactive children's theater with the Poetic Rebound Performance Group and the magic and balloon fun of Sparkles the Clown, Mr. Bubbles and Papa Balloon.
• Street performances by three dance companies: MoVMNT; Dancing with Scissors; Sisters of the Shifting Sands and a special Theatre Cedar Rapids preview of Altar Boyz. Juggling by Doug Sayers. In addition, look for street artists and musicians performing in and around the festival throughout the two days.
• Great food vendors from area restaurants Winifred’s, Rafael’s, Tic Toc, Kettlecorn, Kool Moo, Coffee Emporium and Marco’s Pizza.
• Special events/exhibits include: Tours of the Bottleworks condominiums; Artworks open house at the Cherry Building; tours of Czech Village/New Bohemia by the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library; A photographic display of the history of New Bohemia by Mark Hunter; A “This Place Matters” portrait event with Ann Kinney of Illusions Photography – have your picture taken with a historic building in the district building you would like saved (an Iowa Department of Economic Main Street sponsored project).
