January 24, 2010 to be proclaimed Arts and Culture Day in the Corridor

The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) is pleased to announce that Sunday, January 24, 2010 is being proclaimed “Arts and Culture Day in the Corridor.” Mayors in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City are proclaiming “Arts and Culture Day” in conjunction with the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance Excellence in Innovation Awards (aka The Icky’s!).

“We are thrilled that these cities have come together to declare Arts and Culture Day 2010,” said Joe Jennison, Executive Director of ICCA. “These cities obviously understand that it is the arts and culture organizations are indeed what attract and retain employees to the area and create the Corridor’s great quality of life.”

The Icky’s award ceremony will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus (1220 First Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids). The evening will begin with a Red Carpet reception from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at the Cone and Eaton-Buchan Galleries inside the lobby of the auditorium. The reception will include a complimentary hors d'oeuvres buffet, art and history exhibit and cash bar. Along with the award presentations (in 12 categories), the evening will also include live performances representing some of the cultural community's many successes during Calendar Year 2009.

The Ickys are a formal-but-fun, red-carpet event open to members of the public. Tickets for program are $20 and are on sale now through Orchestra Iowa at (800) 369-TUNE, or online through the Orchestra Iowa Web site at http://www.orchestraiowa.org/Events/20100124/47/4th-Annual-Icky-Awards.aspx.
