National Trust for Historic Preservation Profiles Grant Wood Window

The restoration of a local Grant Wood designed stained-glass window was profiled in the March/April 2010 issue of Preservation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation magazine. In the June 2008 flood, the 20-by-24 foot window valued at $3 million and located in the Veterans Memorial Building was cracked in over 100 places. The 1927 window was transported to Davenport, Iowa, for a $150,000 restoration project.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a national, privately funded, non-profit organization with 29 sites in the United States and over 250,000 members. The National Trust aims to provide leadership, education, and advocacy to save America’s historic places and revitalize communities through leadership, education and advocacy.

“The National Trust for Historic Preservation has played and continues to play an important role in restoration and conservation projects in Cedar Rapids, particularly in flood damaged facilities,” said Jim Kern, Executive Director of Brucemore.

Brucemore is Iowa’s only National Trust Historic Site, located at 2160 Linden Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
