Welcome the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association to Cedar Rapids!
The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) World Tournament will be held at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena July 26 - August 7, 2010. The NHPA World Tournament will be hosted by the Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
There are 1,268 total entrants from the United States, Canada and Norway. Most competitors will pitch for three days; five games each day. World Tournament participants qualify by playing in four NHPA sanctioned tournaments in the year prior to the World Tournament. The World Tournament includes competition for youth, women, men and elders (over 70) that choose to throw from 30 feet.
Competition will begin by 7:00 a.m. each morning through the first week, with a break for the NHPA convention and Hall of Fame banquet on Sunday, August 1, then will resume by 7:00 a.m. Monday, August 2. A Jukskei team from South Africa will be giving demonstrations in front of the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. http://www.jukskei-nam.com/gameRulesE.php The South African team will arrive on July 28 and will depart on August 2. They will set up their demonstration times upon arrival in Cedar Rapids.
Participants and families are projected to spend approximately $1.1 million in the Cedar Rapids area. That is money spent at local businesses, in your shops and restaurants.
